The City of Lakewood and local community groups work together to produce the annual Light Up Lakewood celebration each December. Detroit Ave. from Marlowe to Arthur is closed for a street festival and the highlight of the event is the arrival of Santa Claus and the "throwing of the switch" to turn on the city's holiday decorations.

Lakewood's annual Community Festival, held each September in Madison Park. Local churches and other organizations sell ethnic foods and crafts, games are organized for children, bands perform and community good cheer is spread.
